Buea Council Launches Inter-Quarter Football Competition
The maiden edition of the Buea Council football cop competition dubbed BUCIFOCC takes off on Sunday, July 11. The chairman of the organizing committee, Mr. EWOME Joseph Njie, who is the Secretary General of the council told Sunsports that the competition, which carries a cash prize of FCFA. 1.5 million is expected to involve 12 to 14 teams based in the municipality. Each competing team is expected to register with FCFA 3,000. As to what are the expectations of the council at the end of the one month tournament, Mr. Ewome said that “at the end of the tournament we must have created an impact on the life of the municipality among football fans, especially after the dismal performance of the Indomitable Lions in South Africa”.

Dr. Ngongi’s Competition Takes-Off
The Second edition of the Dr. Amos Namanga Ngongi’s inter-quarter Football Competition kicked of on Sunday July 4 at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium, presided at by the representative of South West Governor, the Social and Cultural Affairs Adviser, Edwin Nkenya Ngwana. The donor has put a trophy of FCFA 1.5 Million this year. The number of teams for this year increased to fourteen each entitled to a complete set of jerseys donated by the cup donor. In all, the population of Buea will be thrilled with 56 matches in six weeks. As already portrayed in last year’s edition the competition is made up of a cream of finely selected football talents from all the nooks and crannies of Buea. It has since inception last year gained reputation of crowd-pulling and deterrence of young people from crime, idleness and promiscuity in preference for positive thinking.

Football Forum Sets Pace For Future
A tripartite steering committee which will comprise members of the Cameroon Football Federation, the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and members of the civil society will be set up to oversee the implementation of the resolutions of the national forum on football which held recently in Yaounde. This revelation was made last May 27 by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Michel Zoah while speaking during the closing ceremony of a three-day forum at the Yaounde Conference Centre. He called for the strict respect of the terms of the forum saying government will do everything possible to implement the resolutions of the conference. The expected reforms, he said is going to lead to the modernisation or professionalism in the management of football in the country.

Bafut United Qualify For Interpools
The Bafut United Football Club has qualified for the 2010 Interpools competition in Cameroon. The Bafut team picked up their qualification ticket after successful performances during the second division football competition in the North West. The team put up wonderful performances at the initial phase, semi-finals and finals of the competition in the Region. During the finals, Bafut F.C walloped Bamenda F.C 1 – 0 to pick its qualification ticket to participate in the 2010 Interpool competition as North West champion. The spectacular performance by Bafut F.C was thanks to the team spirit adopted by the members of the caretaker committee comprising of Barrister Suh Ben, Mayor Langsi Abel, Shu Walters, Suh Benjamin and others who later dropped during the competition

Football Manager Dies in Ghastly Accident
Three Second Division football clubs in the Southwest and the entire football family in the Region are bereaved, following a very fatal car accident last Thursday morning, May 27 on the Dibanda hill along the Mutengene-Buea road. Sanga Ignatius, who is closely involved with the management of Kumba Lakers, Rio Mundemba and Little foot of Tiko was crushed to death in his Rav 4 car by a truck crammed with empty crates of drinks. According to accounts, the truck’s brakes failed as it crawled down the hill and the driver, in a bid to steer the mad heavy loader into the valley, rammed into Sanga, who was coming from Tiko. Apparently, Sanga tried to pull himself away from the front part of the car which had been crushed to no avail. His lifeless body could only be retrieved from the car and taken to the mortuary after the car was cut to pieces in a local garage.
